A house help accused of stealing her employer’s one-year-old child was on Friday arraigned at the Homa Bay Law Courts where she pleaded not guilty to changes.
The court heard that Agnes Atieno Anyango alias Aisha stole the baby at her employer’s house on August 2, 2023 when the minor’s parents - Abdul Azziz and Sahia Aden - were away from home.
Prosecutor Rachel Amala pleaded with the court to give the accused a stringent bond, arguing that she is a flight risk being that she was arrested at the border while crossing over to Tanzania with the baby.
esident Magistrate Beatrice Toroitich ruled that the court was convinced that the accused person is a flight risk.
She therefore ordered the accused to pay a bond of Ksh.800,000 with two sureties of the same amount.
The cases will be mentioned on August 8, 2023 while the hearing was slated for August 16, 2023.
Police officers in Migori County, in collaboration with members of the public, intercepted the house girl on Wednesday afternoon while she attempted to flee with the toddler.
The suspecthad been left in the custody of the baby boy within Sango estate in Homa Bay County as her employer left for work.
According to Suna East sub-county OCPD Ben Kemboi, she thereafter left the house with the toddler and was allegedly enroute Tanzania when she was arrested.
